Calamity Day Assignment:
2nd Grade Calamity Day Learning – See Day 1 and Day 2
Big Walnut Board of Education has approved a resolution that allows us to use Calamity Day Learning ("Blizzard Bags") in the event that we go beyond the state allocation of five calamity days. The online learning activities listed below have been developed in the event that we go beyond the given allotted days. Students will have up to 10 days to complete these activities and be counted "present" for the missed day. You will be notified via the district's "all call" system should your child need to use this Calamity Day Learning site.
Reading and Social Studies:
-Login to Raz Kids, go to level K. Click on the story Barack Obama.
- Read the book. Then list information from the sections: Growing Up, Finding His Way, and The New President.
*This activity should be repeated with a different biography for Day 2, listing information about that person's childhood, accomplishments, and what he/she is mostly known for.
Writing and Science:
- Day 1: Write instructions for “How to Make a Snowman.” Be sure to include
what forces are used. Remember to add lots of details.
- Day 2: Be a scientist and write a journal entry about what you observed on your
snowday.
Math:
- Visit www.abcya.com, www.coolath.com, www.mobymax.com and/or www.mathplayground.com
- Use website to practice basic facts, telling time, and/or counting money
*These activities should be repeated for Day 2
Social Studies:
- Day 1: Draw a map of your bedroom
Include: map key with symbols, symbols, and a compass rose.
- Day 2: Choose another room and repeat activity

Upon completion of the assignments, students will need to complete the Calamity Day Leaning Log (see link above or ask for one from your homeroom teacher). Parent signature is required on this form.
